How it works:
When you register, you join a “Team”
You’ll learn routines with your level-based Team that you can practice and get coaching on throughout the weekend then showcase on stage!
The goal is quality over quantity: Instead of just memorizing steps, we want to facilitate learning the routines deeper - accessing layers of refinement, expression, and artistry that make your performance come alive.
So to achieve this goal, all campers also get access to:
Solo Choreo
- New movement challenges that you don’t need a partner for, but you can easily incorporate into your West Coast Swing.
- Includes Yoga, Ballet, Hip Hop, and solo West Coast Swing
- Option to perform on Saturday night.
Breakout sessions
Performing or competing with a routine is about more than memorizing choreography. We want to give dancers more holistic guidance, so the coaches will be providing non-physical breakout sessions on valuable topics such as:
- Need-to-know history to respect the art
- Defining your goals
- The routine journey
- From idea to retirement (of a routine)
- Never stop training - treat it as a year-round project
- Secrets of successful partnerships
- Training resilience - when things go wrong
- How to be more competitive
High-quality video production
- We’ll bring the lights, the stage, and the 4K camera, to capture your performance for your own memories or for social media
Optional Extras
Lifts Intensive
Lifts are hard! But they are fun! But they are hard!
It’s not as simple as copying off a video - lifts require safety techniques and specific strategies for making them flow inside of a WCS routine, and this is 100x better in person where you can get hands-on.
Using a progressive skill building approach, Showcase Champions Myles & Tessa will train you in 2 parts:
Part A:
Safety procedures, responsibilities of each role, and some lift entrances and exits that are the foundation for many variations. Part A is required if you have no lifting experience or want to clean up your foundation.
Part B:
For dancers with lift experience (or who have completed Part A): Taking it to the next level - literally! Get higher, with more creative entrances & exits.
Partner required - does not have to be the partner you signed up for the event with.
Private Routine Coaching
If you already have a routine, you can book a room for a completely private 30min coaching session to work on your routine or lifts with one of the Pro coaches in isolation without distraction or having to compete for floorspace or music.
